
The 75 000-hectare Madikwe Game Reserve is located in the North West Province of South Africa. Prior to its establishment in 1991, most of the land consisted of cattle farms. Since 1991, the park has undergone an intensive phase of development as a premier game reserve, and this included an extensive restocking programme with game species that historically occurred in the region.
The approach to conservation that's been adopted here puts the needs of the local communities before wildlife and conservation. They strongly believe that by creating jobs and business opportunities for the local people, this will in turn drum up support for the conservation areas in question and so help it attain its objectives.
Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge is set on the Tweedepoort Ridge and enjoys expansive views across the northern plains. The main lodge is spectacularly located on two tiers of the ridge, accessed by a wooden bridge that crosses the ravine. The lodge has been designed to blend in with the natural surroundings.
