D'Ouwe Werf Country Inn is the best way to get a feel for Stellenbosch's marriage of old and new. Established in 1802, d'Ouwe Werf is the oldest inn in South Africa. The inn stands on the hallowed grounds of the town's first church, which dates back to 1686, and the remains of the church can still be seen beneath the floorboards of the inn's kitchen.
