Desert Homestead

Desert Homestead | Namibia

The Desert Homestead lies approximately 32km southeast of Sesriem. The wide grassy valley is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft mountains with a view reaching to the distant dunes of the Namib Desert to the west. In this exquisite position, Desert Homestead offers simple but stylish accommodation in thatched chalets which were designed with the fragile beauty of this remarkable environment in mind.

The 20 thatched chalets all have en suite bathrooms and are decorated in neutral colours and complimented by dark wood furniture. Each chalet has a verandah where you can while away the hours, appreciating the magnificent views. The lodge is truly built with the environment in mind: the lights and fans run off a battery which is charged by solar and wind power, and the toiletries provided are environmentally friendly. The cosy lounge is an inviting one, decorated in an African theme with comfortable leather couches setting the scene. There is a television room and swimming pool – internet is available in the curio shop.

There are various excursions and activities in the area to keep you occupied. An excursion to the renowned Sossusvlei is always popular – departing before sunrise, you’ll set off in a 4x4 vehicle with a local guide. Afternoon trips are also offered but the photographic opportunities are better in the morning. A half day tour, this also includes a picnic lunch before returning to the lodge. Other activities offered are breakfast and sundowner rides on horseback, a self guided walking trail, quad biking and hot air ballooning.
