Grootbos is a nature lovers paradise situated on the hills overlooking Walker Bay, where the Southern Right Whales come to calve every year. On the property you will find one of the last remaining Milkwood forests in the world, as well as several rare fynbos species. The region enjoys marine and floral biodiversity like none other – you will find more than 740 plant species on the property. Stroll along one of the pristine beaches and enjoy the whales and African penguins along the coastline.

Its two exquisite lodges are rated 5 star – Garden Lodge is child friendly, allowing for families to experience the splendour of the region. The One and Two Bedroom Suites are free standing, ensuring your privacy and tranquility. Each of the suites also boast a lounge with fireplace, as well as private terraces enjoying splendid ocean views. There is a children’s programme to keep the youngsters happy – activities are fun as well as educational and can include treasure hunts, horse riding or simply poking around in the rock pools.

There are a myriad of things to do and explore during your stay – enjoy a nature walk, explore the area on horse back, take a whale watching boat trip in season or enjoy shark cage diving in nearby Gansbaai, if you dare!
Grootbos is dedicated to the upliftment of the local community – it started the project Green Futures, which provides training in the fields of fynbos landscaping and conservation to young people in the local community. This way they’re not only creating an environmental awareness, but also empowering these youngsters to go out and find employment in the horticulture industry. A very worthy cause indeed. Grootbos is accredited by FTTSA (Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa).
