
Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is located in the resort town of Gisenyi, on the shores of Lake Kivu, the sixth largest lake in Africa. On the social front, Lake Kivu Serena hotel works with the local farmers to supply them with fresh produce, therefore injecting much needed funds into the local communities. The gift shop features a range of items made by the local community groups and local dance troupes perform at the hotel regularly, thus providing employment. The hotel has established an employee wellness programme to promote the wellbeing of all staff members and reduce the incidence of accident or illness in the workplace. The hotel supports the local Nyundo orphanage and supplies them with food, clothing and educational equipment.
In terms of their environmental footprint, the hotel is committed to energy conservation, recycling of glass and plastics and distributing food waste to local pig farmers. They also abide by a responsible practice code in terms of sewage disposal, pesticide use and noise reduction.
