Lion Sands Private Game Reserve/Kruger National Park. Family-owned and managed since 1993, it offers exquisite service that makes every stay all the more memorable at the only private reserve located on the perennial Sabie River.
The Reserve covers just 4,000 hectares but because the Sabie River borders Kruger National Park, guests can be assured of spectacular wildlife sightings all year round. Lion Sands is also the only reserve in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve with a full-time ecologist who ensures that the bushveld environment is properly conserved and cared for.
River Lodge is located on a site with trees dating back almost 800 years and offers 18 luxury thatched guestrooms, each with its own private viewing deck. As the Lodge was designed to face due east, guests can enjoy a golden sunrise over Kruger National Park every morning.
A more exclusive option is the international award-winning Ivory Lodge. Inside each of its six suites is a sumptuous sitting area separated from the bedroom by a patio, with selected glass walls allowing light and air to circulate freely. Outside, a private infinity-edge plunge pool awaits, from which guests can spot all manner of wildlife, not to mention a breathtaking view of the nearby Sabie River.
Lion Sands also boasts a treehouse with its own bush-style bedroom. One couple each night can sleep on a platform built above the tree line, with a four-poster bed with mosquito net, dining area and simple bathroom facilities.
