Ongava Lodge

Ongava Lodge l Etosha l Views from verandah

Ongava Lodge is situated on the Ongava Game Reserve, which was formed in 1991 when shareholders of Ongava converted four unproductive cattle ranches into a highly productive 30,000 hectare private game reserve that is now a haven to large concentrations of wildlife. The boundary is unfenced, allowing a host of wildlife to move between the Ongava Game Reserve and the Etosha National Park. Game drives are conducted both on the reserve and in Etosha, and white rhino can be tracked on foot, making for a thrilling game experience.

Accommodation at Ongava Lodge consists of 13 chalets and 1 family room, attractively built out of brick, rock and thatch. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet, bath, shower and double hand basins. Air-conditioning and overhead fans keep guests cool in the scorching Namibian heat. Mosquito nets are fitted to the windows and each room features a tea/coffee station and a safe. The rooms have glass fronted doors which lead out onto a private, covered verandah, overlooking the bush.

Enjoy impressive views of the waterhole and surrounding plains from the main lounge, bar and dining areas. Meals are either served in the main dining area under thatch with a view over the camp's water hole, or on the dining deck under the stars.

Additional Information

Ongava Game Reserve is committed to conservation, its efforts channelled mainly into its white and black rhino project. Ongava is one of the few places in southern Africa where you can realistically expect to see both of these charismatic animals and the reserve plays custodian to one of the largest rhino populations in Namibia. The aim is to protect the existing animals, as well as to breed them in order to reintroduce rhino to other parts of the country where these species once flourished.
