Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge l Rwanda l Bedroom

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is probably the most luxurious accommodation option in Ruhengeri. The lodge is located mere minutes away from the headquarters of the Volcanoes National Park, the starting point for tracking the magnificent Mountain Gorillas. While this is sure to be the main reason for visiting the area, there are a myriad of other excursions to partake in.

Accommodation comprises of 8 rooms and suites, all built from stone with Rwandese terracotta tile roofs. The rooms are spacious and feature large sitting areas, cosy fireplaces, en-suite bathrooms and a sheltered veranda. There is a family suite with a second bedroom for larger parties. Hot water at the lodge is plentiful. The main lodge houses the reception area, dining room, library / games room and small shop. Relax on one of the patio areas, enjoying dramatic views to the Virunga Volcanoes and the surrounding farmland.

Apart from gorilla tracking, you can also track playful Golden Monkeys, visit beautiful Lake Kivu for a boat cruise or simply soaking up the sun, hike to the Dian Fossey memorial and research centre or shop at one of the lively local markets. The lodge is owned by a Community Trust, SACOLA, which uses profits from the lodge to drive socio-economic and conservation initiatives in the communities adjacent to the National Park. It is possible to visit some of these community projects.
