Thakadu River Camp

Thakadu River Camp l Madikwe Game Reserve l Bedroom

Thakadu River Camp is situated in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve of South Africa. It’s a community owned camp and is run in partnership between the Madikwe Collection and the Molatedi community. Set on the banks of the Marico River, the lodge was constructed using natural materials such as wood and stone.

Madikwe Game Reserve is the fourth largest in South Africa and is regarded as one of the finest, partly due to its position in a transition zone on the edge of the Kalahari. A number of rare animal species occur here naturally, including the Kalahari Gemsbok. The land used to be utilized for farming, but this wasn’t very successful due to the poor quality of the soil. The reserve was opened in 1991 and currently comprises an area of 75,000ha.

Thakadu River Camp is decorated in an African-Asian style and offers big sliding doors that open up to the bushveld beyond your suite. The suites are spacious and comfortably accommodate the bed and a settee, the perfect place to curl up with a good book. The satellite camp of Little Thakadu is perfect for larger families or groups of friends – it can sleep 8 people and has its own lounge, dining room, pool and game drive vehicle.
