The Dunes Country House

The Dunes Country House l South Africa l Exterior

The property is situated on a 600ha conservancy and the lodge is surrounded by expansive indigenous gardens and coastal fynbos. Guests come here to relax, unwind and revel in the natural beauty of the area. The free standing Garden Rooms are a true delight – decorated in rich colours and dark Mahogany, the rooms are secluded and offer your own private veranda with lovely garden views. The bathrooms are spacious and have an air of romance about them – indulge in large Victorian baths and underfloor heating.

The lodge has a beautiful pool with sun loungers, perfect to spend a few lazy hours with a good book. Enjoy a nature walk and marvel at the variety of birds – there are over 100 bird species found in the area. Indulge in a blissful spa treatment in the onsite Bush Spa. In the surrounding area you can enjoy all sorts of watersport, play a round of golf or take in the Xhosa culture in the nearby town of Hankey.

The Dunes is committed to environmental awareness and conservation, and you can help in a unique way: join a Frogging Safari! Frog species worldwide are in serious decline, mainly due to human factors such as pollution and deforestation. As a newly recruited frogger and armed with gumboots and head lights, you will set off at sunset to find the frogs in the area, list them and release them again. Keeping track of the species in the area makes it easier to protect them – so far, an amazing 13 frog species have been found in the area. All proceeds from the safaris go towards the preservation of the wetlands, so that the frog population can flourish once more.
