Thonga Beach Lodge

Thonga Beach Lodge is set on the pristine shores of the Maputuland coast, KwaZulu-Natal. The lodge offers 24 rooms and is the ideal place for nature lovers – come and discover one of the most unspoilt wilderness beaches left in Africa. Mabibi offers crystal clear, warm waters, making it perfect for year-round snorkelling and off-shore scuba diving. Lose yourself in the shimmering lakes and surrounding coastal forests – this place is pure magic!

The thatched suites are spacious and built on wooden stilts to ensure that the fragile dune ecosystem is not damaged. Inspired by Thonga architecture, the rooms all have private balconies and some enjoy sea views. Luxuriously decorated, the rooms exude a romantic ambiance. The clever use of bleached wood, glass and natural materials ensure a spacious, airy feel. The en-suite rooms have a bathroom with bath, shower and twin vanity. Each suite has air conditioning.

Meals are enjoyed in the thatched ‘rondavel’, which opens on to an expansive wooden deck – guests can enjoy a sumptuous meal while breathing in the fresh sea air. The majority of the meals are served al fresco, or, for special occasions guests can head for the beach and dine by candlelight on the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Additional Information

Thonga Beach Lodge can only be reached by 4x4 vehicles and guests arriving by non 4x4 vehicles must make arrangements to be collected at the ‘Coastal Cashews’ parking area at one of the following pick-up times: 12h00 or 15h00. Pick ups outside of these times will incur an additional charge. Allow another 1 hour travelling time from the pick up point to the lodge.
