Flowing from central Angola, the 1430 km Okavango River annually empties its 18.5 billion cubic metres of water into the Kalahari Desert of lowland Botswana. This delta is lifeblood for an unique ecosystem in an otherwise parched environment.
As you enter by air, the Delta may seem like a watery warren - but there are distinct areas within it. The only protected section, and most densely populated by wildlife, is the Moremi Game Reserve - with its dual personalities of small dry hills and surrounding wetlands. The Eastern Delta is the most accessible and if you are short of time this can be an excellent option.
Glide through the waterways and lagoons on a mokoro - or dugout canoe, and chance upon all manner of wildlife in this pristine and remote environment.
Return to luxury tented camps and lodges on the water's edge and enjoy great food and service throughout the evening as the sounds of the Delta at night filter through the campfire stories.
