The Winelands of South Africa are centred around the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl and Somerset West - all within an hour of Cape Town. Rolling vine-covered hills give way to stunning mountain back-drops, and examples of the elegant Cape colonial architecture can be found at many of the traditional wine estate homesteads.
Take a day tour to explore several vineyards with an expert guide. This will encompass wine tasting in the cellars and tasting rooms, with the main aim of choosing the best bottle of wine to accompany a sumptuous lunch at one of the acclaimed estate restaurants. There are literally hundreds of wine estates to explore, all offering the chance to sample their unique blends in a stunning environment.
For those with more time, why not spend a few nights in a cottage on a working wine farm, or in the gastronomic paradise of Franschhoek, where you can't walk more than a few yards without passing an award-wining restaurant.
