Masai Mara | Kenya

Kenya – the original safari destination. If wildlife is your drawcard, then the highlights are well-known and right here. Many of our travellers have sat in awe on the banks of the Mara River in September, watching the huge famed migratory herds of the annual Wildebeest Migration crossing over from the Serengeti. Others have chosen a pre-dawn balloon ride and drifted silently above as the sun appeared to welcome a new day to the endless plains. Others still have revelled in photographing the enormous elephants of Amboseli – framed under the towering heights of Kilimanjaro.

An easy flight from London, Nairobi is the regional hub and from here you can access not only the many safari locations, but also stunning white-sand Indian Ocean beaches. For the adventurous at heart, we highly recommend a 3-4 day add-on to Rwanda where you can travel up into the Virunga Volcanoes and track the rare & endangered Gorillas in the Mist…

  • Don't miss the opportunity to take a side-trip to Rwanda and experience the ultimate wildlife experience - tracking Mountain Gorillas in the wild.

When to visit

June-September The dry months and a great time to visit.  Excellent game viewing and the migratory herds start to arrive in the Masaai Mara from late July.  Occasional chilly mornings at higher altitudes, but sunny and warm during the day.
October-November The "short" rains.  The Migratory herds are starting to leave the Mara for the long journey south.  Deals to be had at this quieter time of year.
December-MarchThe summer months are somewhat warmer and mainly dry.  This is a great time to visit if you wish to avoid the crowds that can gather during the migration in July & August.  The game viewing is excellent andprobably the best time for a combination trip with Rwanda.
April-MayAutumn. Lots of green following the summer rains; warm temperatures, clear skies
