This programme offers the opportunity for overseas communities (schools, social clubs, faith groups, sports teams, nursing organisations, etc) to link with an appropriate community in South or Southern Africa. Face Africa will facilitate the selection of an appropriate partner and put the sustainability indicators in place to ensure that both communities understand what the partnership entails.
The aim is to build up to a tour or expedition from the overseas community to their local partner to engage in an interaction and potentially volunteer their time and funds to an “impact project” aimed at supporting ongoing development in that community.
These partnerships require a long term commitment from both sides and successful examples include a number of school-links now planning their 5th expedition and engaging in some deep and meaningful local development work.
This programme has received critical acclaim in the United Kingdom for its footprint and impacts both in the home and host communities.
Cape Town Office
The Face Africa Community Link Programme is based in Cape Town at our South African office (officially known as Face Africa Tours & Expeditions). From here we manage all of the link partners in Southern Africa, as well as having our operating base for the expeditions that we run into South Africa and further afield.
UK Partner
In 2009, Face Africa formed a strategic alliance with Ken Dunn, our longest-serving school expedition client. Ken left teaching at the end of 2009 to form Connecting Communities Worldwide, a not-for-profit company aimed at promoting community links and volunteeing expeditions - especially for schools. With his extensive experience of running school expeditions, fund-raising, putting in place carbon-neutral schemes, winning international school awards and more talents than we can mention here, Ken is the perfect partner for setting up the links with our UK communities and schools. From risk assessments to advice on how to run a fund-raising bag-pack, Ken supports our schools with unwavering enthusiasm and expertise.
