Mountain Gorillas | UgandaA fantastic short tour of Rwanda, covering the highlights of this stunningly beautiful country. Flying into the capital Kigali, your knowledgeable local guide will meet you and escort you throughout your tour.
You will visit important historical sites from the 1994 Genocide, you will track wild chimpanzees in the Nyungwe Forest National Park, you will take a boat trip across Lake Kivu, and of course you will track one of the last remaining Mountain Gorilla groups in the world.
The unsung highlight of your trip will be the chance to meet and interact with the local communities that you will meet en route.

Suggested Itinerary
Day 1: Kigali
Day 1: Kigali

You will be collected from the airport by your driver/guide on your arrival in the Land of a Thousand Hills. After checking into your hotel, you will have the chance to take an afternoon tour of the city including a visit to the Genocide Memorial at Gisozi.
This evening you will enjoy dinner in a local restaurant.


Day 2: Nyungwe Forest
Day 2: Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast you will depart south to the university town of Butare. Here you will visit the excellent National Museum and impressive King`s Palace.
After lunch, you will continue into the magical Nyungwe Forest - 970 sq km of magnificent montane forest, and home to an impressive array of biodiversity.


Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking
Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking

After an early breakfast, you will enter the Forest and meet up with your guides to track Chimpanzees in the wild - an experience limited to very few areas of East & Central Africa. The forest is home to 13 species of primate and 280 species of bird, as well as other smaller mammals.

Best available.  In Kigali and Gisenyi this is 4* hotels, in Nyungwe & Kibuye this is 2-star hotels.  Comfortable but basic en-suite rooms with mosquito net, shower, toilet & basin.
All trips can be tailor-made to suit your budget.


Transport:
Private vehicle with a driver/guide.

One gorilla tracking permit per person in the Parc National des Volcans. One chimpanzee tracking permit per person in the Nyungwe Forest.

How This Tour Benefits The Local Community:
A percentage from each gorilla and chimpanzee tracking permit is channelled into a fund that is used for economic development in the local area. You have the option of visiting the Marie Mediatrice orphanage where you can make a direct donation to the project as well as the chance to visit and see the project for yourselves.

Our local Rwandan partner is a 100% Rwandese-owned company employing and training local guides and encouraging local tourism enterprise in Rwanda.  In addition, where possible we use locally-owned lodges - ensuring your presence is injecting money into the local economy.
