Your adventure kicks off with a visit to the Ngamba Island chimpanzee sanctuary, where you’ll come up close with orphaned chimps and watch them play and feed. Stop off at the scenic Lake Mburo for a game drive and boat cruise, before heading further west to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Tracking mountain gorillas in Bwindi will almost certainly be the highlight of your trip – you’ll have the opportunity for two gorilla treks before travelling north to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy two full days of game viewing – bird watching is also excellent – before heading back to Entebbe via the markets of Kampala.


Suggested Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Day 1: Arrival

Upon arrival into Entebbe, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon, take a boat to Ngamba Island, where you will visit the chimpanzee sanctuary and watch them feed from the viewing platform. Spend the rest of the day bird watching or simply relaxing in the sun before returning to Entebbe and your hotel.


Day 2: Lake Mburo

This morning we drive west to picturesque Lake Mburo, about 5 hours from Entebbe. One of Uganda’s smaller national parks, this region provides a convenient stopover en route to Bwindi and even in the absence of lion and elephant, you’ll come across many large mammal species, such as buffalo, hippo and eland. Roughly 20% of the park consists of wetland, housing an impressive array of bird species that includes the brilliantly coloured papyrus gonolek and the yellow warbler. Enjoy a game drive in the park, a boat cruise on the lake or a guided walk with a local ranger.


Day 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Day 3: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

This morning we head west to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southern Uganda – the journey will take you through rolling green hills stretching as far as the eye can see. Lunch is enjoyed en route. Bwindi is a true rainforest and receives an annual rainfall of about 1,500mm. Apart from the obvious attraction that is the gorillas, the park it also home to 120 species of mammal and 11 primate species, including a thriving chimpanzee population. The excitement is sure to be building in anticipation of your meeting with the gorillas tomorrow!
